addictions interventions
Addiction if left untreated can result in fatal consequences
Addictions are an increased dependence on a
variety of substances such as alcohol, drugs and prescription drugs. There
are a number of signs for addictions such as continued use despite the
consequences which may affect the addicts family, friends, loss of job and a
downward spiral in their lifestyles. Addicts have an inability to stop
using alcohol or drugs without the right help or treatment. Addicts will have various problems within their lives which will affect
family, mental health, their job, their social network, their finances and can
sometimes get the addict in trouble with legal authorities. Addiction can
effect everyone regardless of their age, sex, nationality, social class or
income. Addiction can lead to suicidal tendencies, depression and
overdosing. Not all addicts have a history of addiction in
their family. Addicts become addicted to alcohol and / or drugs for a
variety of reasons. It can be their mental state of mind, their social
environment etc. Addicts may remain in denial throughout their addiction
but some who realise they have a problem will find out too late. They have
already become addicts. Families and friends of the addicts may also
realise too late that their loved one has a serious problem with their
addiction. Addiction starts in a number of ways: peer pressure, social
environment, experimentation and substance abuse.
Every addict will differ in
their level of addiction, what they use and how often they use
it.

interventions
One addict may start out by experimenting with
friends others will self medicate for emotional or mental reasons. Some
will try to blot out personal problems with alcohol and / or drugs. Due to
the addicts increase in tolerance, they will find themselves using more and more
the alcohol or drug in order to create the same effect. An
addict is unable to stop sometimes due to their obsession with the substance or
others due to the withdrawal symptoms being too much for them to stop of their
own accord without medical treatment. In some cases, withdrawal from
alcohol or certain types of drugs can be life threatening. A number of
addicts will need to undertake a detox programme in order to stop their
substance abuse safely and under medical supervision. Whilst undergoing an
intervention, the addict should never stop using the alcohol or drugs on their
own until they are under medical supervision at the chosen rehab
centre.
The impact of addiction on families and friends can be
huge. The personality of an addict can change over time due to their mood
swings, depression, aggressive behaviour and the downward spiral of their morals
and self-respect.
Families and friends of the addict will find
that over time and as the addiction intensifies they are unable to trust their
loved one. This can often lead to blame, anger, arguments and
bitterness.
By making the decision to opt for an
intervention, their relationships, lives and the addicts future can change for
so much better. By choosing an intervention, you can help the addict to
seek the treatment they so desperately need and help them to turn their life
around. Once an intervention has occurred, we can then
get the addict into the right rehab treatment centre for their particular
needs. Rehab treatment centres provide medical detox, support groups,
behavioural changes within the addicts lifestyle and a safe and caring
environment in which they can seek and get the help they require.
